We precisely calculate steam requirements so your boiler is never under, or over-sized. 

Typically, steam sizing systems are built on rules of thumb derived from decades of experience. They usually are reliable and consistent, but they lack the ability to determine exact specifications for precise situations. Using our engineering experience, we have created a program that simulates individual steam systems in order to directly size the boiler. 

Why do precise calculations matter?

We measure the total radiation of the system and calculate the actual heat load which is used to directly size each boiler based on the real world application. Without these calculations, the installed boiler varies in size by 15% depending on the rule of thumb. Our method provides direct savings on installation and heating cost from oversized boilers. 

Each system we size includes a printed report with all system information as shown in the example below. 

Real world example:

The rule of thumb to size a boiler is typically 1.3-1.5 times the output of the radiators. In this application, the actual total radiation of the entire system was calculated to be 219,546 BTU/hr while the radiation of just the radiators was estimated to be 212,160 BTU/hr. Using the rule of thumb on the radiator output would size the boiler at 284,000-328,000 BTU/hr. The actual total radiation indicates a boiler of 220,000 BTU/hr is all that is necessary for this system. 

How can we size so differently? In addition to sizing each radiator, we measure the length, diameter and insulation of all the system piping and calculate the actual heat coming off the piping. This is how we calculate the actual total radiation of the system. This example had exceptionally good insulation installed throughout the building, which allowed a smaller boiler than the rule of thumb dictated.
